Oral Cancer Screening with Bundoora Dentist

What is an Oral Cancer Screening?

By closely examining the inside of your mouth, our dentist can detect any changes to the oral tissues. These include changes to the texture and colour, and any unexplained lumps or sore patches that are failing to heal. Our dentist will carefully examine the insides of your cheeks and lips, the roof and floor of your mouth and your tongue. They will gently feel your neck to see if your lymph glands are enlarged.

Who Is More at Risk of Oral Cancer?

People who smoke or drink heavily, who have a family history of cancer, or who have been exposed to the human papilloma virus are more at risk. However, approximately 25% of people diagnosed with oral cancer have no known risk factors. This is why regular oral cancer screenings are so important as the prognosis is greatly improved with an early diagnosis. New Age Dental methodology is well-equipped with specialised equipment for oral cancer screening, recording the results and referring patients if needed.
