Here at New Age Dental in Bundoora, we love seeing young children and like to keep a close eye on the development of their teeth and their jaws. If we think they will benefit, our dentist may suggest an early orthodontic evaluation.
This is an evaluation carried out by an orthodontist when a child is age 6 or seven. At this stage, an orthodontist is able to see how their teeth and jaws will develop, and if there will be any problems. An early orthodontic evaluation doesn’t necessarily mean your child will need treatment straightaway. However, if they will benefit, an orthodontist can then plan their treatment to coincide with growth spurts, giving optimal results. At this age, your child’s jaw growth can be guided, helping to provide them with an attractive facial profile.
It’s possible your child may benefit from seeing an orthodontist if they have certain oral habits, for example thumb sucking, or if they breathe through their mouth.
