Have You Been Naughty or Nice to Your Teeth? How To Keep Your Oral Health This Silly Season
For most of us, it’s a given that our waistlines will suffer this season, but a plethora of sugary foods, late nights and alcohol can damage oral health too. The good news is that you can protect your teeth by following a few simple steps.
Avoid ‘Prosecco Smile’
Prosecco is popular worldwide, but dentists have noticed a phenomenon they term a ‘prosecco smile’ and which is caused by sipping acidic bubbly over a long period. The acid in prosecco can damage tooth enamel, so when possible, drink your bubbly through a straw (preferably reusable) or rinse your mouth with water frequently.
Choose Cheese
Cheese is a festive treat that is good for teeth, so finish your meal with a trip to the cheeseboard.
Avoid Grazing
Grazing is terrible for your waistline and your teeth. It increases the amount of time your teeth are exposed to sugar and acids, increasing the damage to them.
Stick to Your Regular Oral Care Routine
Late nights, parties and weekends away can play havoc with your oral care routine and brushing your teeth might seem too much effort at three in the morning. But, it will only take you a couple of minutes and protects your teeth against decay and gum disease, and your breath will feel fresher the next morning too.
